Phlebotomists are laboratory technicians responsible for making blood donations or samples for diagnostic tests . Phlebotomists usually train for a year in a certificate program from a vocational school or community , or can learn the job if you are employed in a clinical setting . National Association of Phlebotomists
Phlebotomists can belong to several professional bodies, including the National Association of Phlebotomists . This partnership also gives them credentials to phlebotomists in office . Candidates must take a course in which earn 16 continuing education credits or 160 hours of classroom instruction , and must have 200 hours of clinical practice instruction . Applicants must also be able to document a year of work experience in the area, and a job description that includes phlebotomy. The exam consists of two parts. The first is the written test , which can take two hours. The second is a time to test. Those that do not pass can be re- run , using a second or third examination if necessary.
American Association of Bioanalysts
This institution provides certification for phlebotomists , embryologists and other areas of expertise. Candidates are several ways to become certified. They may be graduates of an accredited program in Phlebotomy training or non-accredited program that meets the minimum standards established for the instruction. A third way would be a full time job for six months in a clinical laboratory phlebotomist appropriate. Candidates must have completed 100 successful venipunctures and 25 skin punctures to pass the exam .
American Association for Clinical Pathology
The ASCP ( according to its acronym in English) offers certification for phlebotomists . THE ASCP also accepts other health professionals such as nurses or technicians from other disciplines , if they can document 100 successful venipunctures without help. Qualifications for certification to this institution are slightly different. Candidates may graduate from an accredited program or any suitable program that includes at least 120 hours of classroom and practical instruction respectively. Or , candidates may qualify by documenting 1040 hours of work experience as a phlebotomist , the equivalent of six months full-time job , in a period of three years. Candidates must have completed at least 50 venipunctures and 25 skin punctures . The exams are taken by computer and requires 2.5 hours. Phlebotomists have passed a licensing exam or state certification exam of another professional body may also be certified by the Medical Technologists in the United States without having to pass another test.

The ASCP conducts an annual survey of salaries for its members , providing references for technical staff . His 2010 salary survey reported an average salary of $ 13.5 phlebotomists time for him , or U.S. $ 28,080 per year . Supervisors earn on average U.S. $ 20.08 an hour or U.S. $ 41.766 per year .
