Most states have no official regulations or guidelines for the practice of phlebotomy, with the exception of California. The Public Health Department of the State of California requires phlebotomists attend a formal training program, have a considerable amount of work experience and pass a certification exam. States offer three levels of certification to qualified applicants Phlebotomy: Phlebotomy Technical Limited Phlebotomy Certification Technical Certification I and II Technical Phlebotomy.
Instructions:
1. Get a high school diploma or GED certificate . Students pursuing a career in phlebotomy must complete courses in biology , chemistry, physics , algebra , geometry, English and computer . He also encouraged students to learn a foreign language , the phlebotomists work with patients of a large number of nationalities and ethnicities .
2 - Get Phlebotomy certification I. This requires attending a training program in phlebotomy technician approved by the Department of Public Health. Programs should provide students with a minimum of 20 hours of core classes and 20 hours of advanced classes , those applicants who have more than 1040 hours of experience in the workplace meet the requirement of the advanced class . After graduation , candidates must perform 50 venipunctures and 10 skin punctures of real patients and pass a written examination in phlebotomy.
3 - Complete 20 additional hours of advanced placement program in phlebotomy training approved by the Department of Public Health. As a requirement for admission , applicants must show proof that they are Certified Phlebotomy Technicians I, with a minimum of 1,040 hours of experience in the workplace . During the program , students must complete 20 arterial punctures under the supervision of a Doctor of Medicine ( MD ) , Physician Assistant ( PA ) , Registered Nurse ( RN ) , Clinical Laboratory bioanalyst (CLB ) , Clinical Laboratory Scientist ( CLS ) or Respiratory Care Provider ( CPR ) .
4 - Approves a written exam in phlebotomy certifying organization approved by the state. To be eligible for consideration , applicants must submit a certificate of completion of your training program .
5 - Order a Phlebotomy Technician Certification II through the Department of Health Services . Along with the completed application, you must pay a fee of $ 54 as well as deliver two recent photos to the size for the passport . Candidates must also provide the following documentation: copy of high school diploma or GED certificate , certificate of completion of technical training program in phlebotomy, pass a certification exam and submit documentation verifying successful completion of venipuncture 50 , 10 20 skin punctures and arterial punctures .
